  just checked the 1921 census, and it appears my grandparents were lodging with a MR John Sargeant, the address is

 2 Arngah Vale, Litherland, Litherland & Kirkby,Lancashire. anyone know where or what this place was.

Hi Steve, doing a wildcard search on 1939 gives Armagh Vale, Litherland. That is also shown on 1921 with that spelling. Usual transcription error by the looks of it. Not sure where in Litherland it was/is.

I have just seen that Bert beat me to it :-).

  thanks for your input, as he was a barman for threlfalls brewery, i  assume he worked in a public house near by.
